Are you a musician?
If you are a member or attendee of Cedar Springs, please visit Cedar Springs Worship Ministries for information about the orchestra, adult choir, and youth choir. If Cedar Springs is not your home church, check out Knoxville Christian Arts Ministries for additional opportunities.
It's easy to get lost in the busyness of church ministry which begs the question, what are we trying to achieve with hosting so many community concerts? We simply want to meet new friends and build new relationships. Everyone loves music so we're reaching out to fellow music lovers as we share in God's gift of music. Come meet us at one of the opportunities below.
Cedar Springs Sanctuary Choir
The Cedar Springs Sanctuary Choir is under the direction of Dr. Gene Peterson. In addition to leading in worship on Sunday mornings at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, they also host two concerts, a Christmas and a "major work" concert. Visit the events calendar for dates and times. If you're a member of Cedar Springs and are interested in joining the choir, you may contact Dr. Peterson.
Knoxville Christian Arts Ministries
Dr. Jill Lagerberg began the Knoxville Christian Arts Ministries following her tenure as the Sanctuary Choir Director at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. It began as an overflow of the Sanctuary Choir's ministry to the local community and is still supported by Cedar Springs. They minister to retirement homes, nursing homes, the inner city, and in partnership with the Philadelphian Prison Ministry. Performers in this group come from churches all over the Knoxville area and include instrumentalists, vocalists, dancers, bell ringers, and actors. If you're interested in seeing their ministry in action, visit the events calendar for dates and times. If you're a Christian musician looking for a place to serve during the week, contact Dr. Lagerberg.
Praise in the Park
Share Jesus. Build Community
Suzanne Lane, Director of SOAR Choir, met with SOAR in early January 2010 to share the vision of a joint concert with Knoxville Christian Arts Ministries. This was the birth of Praise in the Park which brings together the SOAR students, local Lonsdale churches, and KnoxCam for an afternoon of food, fellowship, music, and good fun. The first annual Praise in the Park was a huge success, and we look forward to the possibility of continuing this ministry next year. Special thanks to Cedar Springs and Black-Eyed Joe's BBQ for support of this event.
The Chapel Concert Series
The Chapel Concert Series is a new vision for the Cedar Springs Music Academy. It is our desire to extend our reach to the community by hosting local artists and music professionals once a month in a manifestation of God's gift through creativity. Styles will include classical, folk, contemporary, and several in between. All concerts are free and open to the public. They will take place in the Chapel (The west steeple closest to Cedar Bluff Road.). View the events calendar for upcoming dates/ times/ performers.
