Description: Parke Cottrell grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, and is a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. He recently relocated to Nashville where he is pursuing his gifts as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is also a part of the local band, Seeing Skies. The idea behind Seeing Skies started in the spring of 2008 when Parke and his friend, Garrett, began meeting together at a coffee shop called De coloures. They began talking and discussing the way they were living and how they longed for more. Parke began writing songs and decided to record them with Chad Robison. After the cd was finished, Parke realized he needed a band to play this music with. He called up some of his best musician friends and began playing the music with. The album, Wake Up & Wake Up! was the first enlistment for Seeing Skies. Seeing Skies included Parke Cottrell, Garrett Thomson, Cody Noll and Asher Coker for about 2 years; though there's more to Seeing Skies than 4 guys: conversations with everyone, watching movies, listening to music, listening to sermons, drinking coffee; all sorts of community based expressions of loving and sharing...everyone all made this possible. Description: In 2005, the Cedar Springs Church Sanctuary and Handbell Choirs traveled to Peru for a ten-day mission trip, where they presented concerts in a number of universities and churches in Lima. They began to pray at that time that the trip would not be a self-contained event but would be the beginning of a continuing outreach ministry to the Knoxville area and further afield, as God led. The opportunities for service became so numerous that in July 2009 Cedar Springs commissioned Knoxville Christian Art Ministries as a ministry dedicated to missional outreach through choral and instrumental music, dance, and drama. Its membership now includes people from 19 different churches in the Knoxville area who desire to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through their art.
